What is Kothar?
Kothar is the vision that arts and crafts made by real artists and artisans should be sellable without having to compete with generative AI or mass-manufactured items.
Besides offering a refuge for artists and artisans that feel betrayed by the existing options, we aim to make this a human-friendly platform: we will only request data that we need from people, our analytics will not be shared with anyone (and will be collected only in-house) and more.
Of course, no AI was used in creating Kothar either.
When is Kothar?
Development is currently underway, but is undertaken by only one of us. We are planning on opening the doors in late 2026, early 2027.
Why is Kothar?
Existing marketplaces either don't have statutes prohibiting the use of generative AI or are not enforcing their statutes. This creates all sorts of problems and we had enough. Generative AI is bad for a multitude of reasons, among which is that its products are not art.
And, of course, dropshipping mass-manufactured items is not art or craft in the same way.
We aim to offer prints of digital products as well, though no digital products directly, as long as the artist can prove that they did not use generative AI. We have some great ideas on how to do that.
Who is Kothar?
Kothar is created by currently two people, passionate about changing the direction of the world, specifically by allowing artists and artisans to sell their art.
